Bio-something...good or bad?

When I found this I thought I had to share it. It is some pretty interesting research and shows how not only fingerprints are unique, but even movements and weird little quirks - unique enough to replace your passwords that is:
Your Body, Your Login
A team of Dutch and Italian researchers has found that the way you move your phone to your ear while answering a call is as distinct as a fingerprint. You take it up at a speed and angle that’s almost impossible for others to replicate. Which makes it a more reliable password than anything you’d come up with yourself. (The most common iPhone password is “1234.”) Down the line, simple movements, like the way you shift in your chair, might also replace passwords on your computer. It could also be the master key to the seven million passwords you set up all over the Internet but keep forgetting. — Chris Wilson

The original article was posted in the latest Time magazine Innovation Issue which features a couple of other amazing innovations that can expected in future. The extract is from the Freakonomics blog. Needless to say this is as scary as it is exciting as this could potentially expose us to more risk in terms of robberies etc. but then again that is my movie-cliched brain taking over (people stabbing out your eye to access your bank account or needing to now hold you at hostage or knife-point for you to allow them entrance to your house or safe by dancing in front of a camera) at the same time I find it pretty exciting that technology is advancing at such a rate. Personally I am quite keen on the advent of Near Field Communication.

TechnoViking!!!

Not to sure how to react to this one...probably the same feeling that the group following had...hey, I wouldn't tell that guy that dancing without a shirt on in public to no music is not cool either...

nonetheless, a fun tune and randomly funny vid:Techno Viking - Heavy Metal

when is too much information too much???

Yesterday whilst sitting at Kauai with my boss and colleague we were joking around about all the apps and things one get now to keep you in touch and up to date with everyone around you - there's BBM, Whatsapp, Twitter, Facebook, Gtalk, Yahoo messenger, Google+ and the list goes on and on.

After a while the conversation turned to how scary it is that people can so naively give away all their rights to privacy with recent apps that track your intimate movements and publishes it on social networking sites - telling everyone where you are "checking in" and when you had your last bowel movement...ok quite not that far, but how far off are we?

Ironically I found this article this morning which details the "datasexual" and touches on all the same topics we were so concerned about yesterday. Is it just me or is all this mindless tagging, checking in and updating slightly concerning?

Nevermind Windows 8 try the new Linux Mint "Maya"

Wow, after my slightly disappointing experience with Windows 8 recently - although to be honest the hopes were not very high from the start - I found the latest version of the Linux Mint OS and installed it. Wow, am I seriously impressed.

Here we have for the first time a completely free Operating System that can run your Windows-based apps (via Wine) and that is as easy to use as Windows - if not easier!!!

Installing applications is a breeze as you do not even have to hunt them down, you can simply open the package manager and select what you want and it is downloaded and installed all for you. It can be installed on pretty much any hardware without the need to download and find manky drivers or silly codecs so you can listen to your music or watch your series - it is an all encompassing bundle. Mention on top of that there are virtually no virus attacks on Linux systems and you have an overall winner.

The least you can do is download the Live ISO and play around with it here and then the install is literally a double-click away!

Enjoy,
Warbrad.
