Windows 8 Consumer Preview

When first hearing news of the new Windows OS the geek in my got really curious so I decided to download the new Consumer Preview to see what it is all about. I installed it on my ancient Acer notebook on a spare hard drive that I have lying around and have not had as much time to play around as I would've liked, but still just enough to be ambivalent about it all... Radical interface change which is kind of cool for some reason, but not so great at the same time. It does allow easy and instant access to pretty much all the social gateways - mail, internet, Instant messaging, Multimedia etc. - and even shows weather updates on the desktop...It is a bit of a trick getting used to the "widgets" to control things and if you are OCD about open windows and messy desktops like me then this is bound to tick you off a bit...the other annoying bit is that you need to have a live account to do pretty much anything and if that is not enough the live account does not allow you access to any of the streaming media in ZA. Ass... It is still way too early for me to make a decision about whether I like it or not or even to pass my geek-o-pinion, but I shall definitely customize it a bit and play with it some more on the weekend to see what it can do. So far though it feels like a cheap version of iOS or more like a melted Ice Cream Sandwich. C'mon Microsoft, do you really think you are going to beat Apple at this touchscreen/marketplace thing? Anyway

Time for the pope to blow his nose

So running on the treadmill this morning I caught up with some of the international news and heard a story that I found quite interesting: Pope's Butler arrested after leaking confidential information Needless to say accusations of this nature (not excluding abduction, rape and murder cover-ups) it will probably only fizzle out with nothing concrete coming forward or anybody taking any responsibility for anything. They are already claiming the famed line of "matters of this nature should be dealt with within the church and not outside" or read as we are above the law and will just transfer the guitly parties or cover it up somehow. However I just found it interesting that someone is now crying out - as the old adage says: "where there is smoke...there is a fire..."

Sabbatical...

So after a good couple months of no blogging (and constantly promising myself that I will do it more often) things have now reached a point where I can make time to key out my thoughts... Hopefully now that I am quite settled and set up in CT with my new internet (thanks MWeb!) things will change so looking forward to writing and rambling about random things. As mentioned this is just a way for me to vent, think or explore my more creative side - whether anybody actually reads it or not is not important to me. Sweet like a lemon! Laters, Warbrad.
