Sprachen sie deutsh?

Scratching off another one on the list for 2013 - Inge and I attended our first in a series of German lessons at the Deutshe Schule in Tamboerskloof.

It is a beautiful building with amazing views of the city, harbour and mountain and definitely exceeded expectations! As for the lesson: the first one was pretty good and was the basic greetings scenario. We got homework...have not had that for a while.

Anyway, quite keen on this new experience and hoping to learn quite a bit from it.

Auf wiedersehen!

It's been a year already!?

Today, exactly one year ago marks the day we packed our two little Citi Golfs with all they could handle and made our way to Cape Town. The only certainty was that we had use of a bedroom for a week...otherwise Inge had a bit of savings and we had cars...

Fortunately for us we have managed to get quite a lot done in the first year: Inge and I each found a job, we have managed to land an epic flat near the beach, entertainment hotspots and work all at once! We have started to buy our own furniture and appliances and have found old lost friends amongst some of the re-united ones from back in PE.

As always this year has passed really quickly and we decided to celebrate this meaningful day in our lives starting with a climb of Lion's Head, heading off to the Waterfront for some craft beer and Subway lunch and finishing off the day back at the flat with the awesome view, home made Italian and a 2006 Webersburg Cab Sav we discovered when we first arrived in CT. It has been a really great day and we hope for many many more!

Thanks to everyone who has supported us and been kind/lucky enough to visit - for those that we love and have had to leave back in PE know that you are never forgotten...

XBox Live Gold

Some of the cheapest and best entertainment I've had!!! R50 per month to join the online gaming community...def worth at least a one month trial if you're a sceptic.

Ensure to register in the ZA region else you going to be paying R90 for the same thing after conversion. Oh and of course we do not have all the services available to us, but still worth it.

Word of warning: be sure to have plenty Hard drive space available as everything you open suddenly requires an update...not to mention all the cool downloadable demos and videos!!! And online gaming becomes quite addictive quite suddenly so be alert - especially when jamming up some Modern Warfare III bitches!

FRAG OUT !..!,

Follow up to 2013 plans

So over the past two weeks I have added two more things to my list:
* brew my own beer
* start a little wine collection
* build a little wine rack to hold said wine collection

As for my outdoor Cape Town experiences I would love to get through this little list in 2013:

So far so good!

Roadtrippin' CT wine farms - 13 Jan 2013

Today we started our first in a series of visits to the local wine farms which are in abundance out here in Cape Town. Seeing as we were house sitting in Durbanville for the weekend we decided to use the opportunity to kick off this project.

Today we visited four farms:
3.) D'Aria - a quaint little place with an award winning white wine - however we stuck to the reds. Nothing inspiring here, however they offer very nice little "take away" cheese platters ideal for a day on the road moving between farms. Six wines on offer for R10.

12.) Nitida - this interesting place was much bigger with two restaurants and a tasting room filled with barrels and barrels of maturing wine. The main restaurant was beautifully open and modern with the second one being more intimate and a function venue. The wines were very good and boasted varieties that tasted of peppercorns, fruit cake and dark chocolate respectively. Definitely worth a try and you might even find yourself leaving with a bottle or two. They had four wines on offer for R20.

9.) Hillcrest - definitely the highlight of the day!!! One of the best wine guides I have seen with a very intimate wine tasting setting right in their open/outside restaurant area. They also sell olives and olive oils, but definitely some of the better reds that I have tasted! Absolutely worth the trip and I can see myself ploughing through many bottles of unlabeled red in the future! They offer quite a different tasting range borrowing some of the French flair for a really good tasting wine range. Six glasses for R20.

7.) Durbanville Hills - definitely the most disappointing I have experienced. The building felt like I was driving up to some dingy compound on the outside although it was very large and discreetly decorated on he inside. Here they offer to pair the wines with chocolates or biltong and I could quickly understand why as all the wine was rather lackluster and left much to be desired. Sadly the unfriendly wine servers helped to dissuade me from ever visiting this place again...eight wines for R25 - we left after four...

Overall a great experience at Hillcrest which will definitely see me again and a great start to an exciting year of wining and dining.

House sitting weekend

Nice weekend break away from the city house sitting forma colleague. Was so nice to be able to braai, swim and play with some pets again...haven't done that in ages. I guess that's the only sad thing about city living, although I wouldn't change it for anything!

Training Manifest - early 2013

And so the deal is sealed...A good buddy and I are doing daily check-ins as the only way to stick to something is to be held accountable!

Rules of engagement:
* train five days a week
* healthy diet
* no booze during the week
* one cheat day on weekend
* no biscuits for me

And most importantly...incentive:
Each training day that is missed equals one beer during the visit in April.

Wish me luck!

Xmas day 2012

I think this last Xmas was probably the best one I have had in quite a while. Spent the day hiking up Lion's head with my dad, bro...and mumsie.

Sticking to things in 2013

Seeing as a new year has rolled around I have some new ideas and plans...the most important being to set a list of new goals...publicly...and try to stick to them!

For now, my first draft of a list:
* back to training routine
* paragliding
* trip up table mountain
* storm winefarms like the beaches of Normandy
* learn a new language
* look into getting a motorcycle and motorcycle license
* boat cruise
* new phone and laptop
* find an artist and get more tattoos done as per plans
* start mauy thai
* shark cage diving

Hoorah!!!
